My next project was to read through the book R for Data Science by Hadley Wickham and Garrett Grolemund. I’m hoping to update the R-programming course that accompanies our large Public Health Biostatistics course, so I was hoping this book would give me some ideas for restructuring the order of topics in the course.
Time these 3 weeks: 724 minutes (~ 12 hours)
Total time (across 7 weeks): 2,206 minutes (~ 36.75 hours, ~ 5.25 hours/week)
It ended up taking me about 3 weeks of project time to read the book (4 weeks of calendar time – there was a week with some major childcare issues that I am choosing to skip over).
I spent about 12 hours on this project across these three weeks, with the time breakdown shown below. (As always, this time doesn’t include any blogging time about the project.)

I’m really glad I read this book! I probably should have read it a long time ago. Although I’ve been using pieces of the tidyverse
for awhile, I definitely learned some new things that will make my coding better in the future. I also ended up with a long list of additional things to read (when I get the time!) And, most importantly, I’ve been able to sketch out a plan to re-work that programming course I’m been wanting to update.
